How do you select writers for BWWP?

We consider all self-identified Black women, two-spirit, non-binary, and gender expansive writers for the Black Women Writers Project and in special cases, close collaborators of any gender. Due to limited capacity of staff and volunteers, we prioritize writers with significant bodies of work, recipients of major literary awards, and those whose work centers the global Black experience. We primarily focus on writers whose works are written in or translated into English.

What genre of writers do you support?

We are looking to uplift the stories of as many writers as possible. To stay true to this mission, we consider writers working in the fine arts, journalism, and academia in addition to novelists, poets, essayists, comic book writers, and non-fiction writers.

Can I submit a writer for consideration?

Yes! We are always looking to expand our work. We also welcome direct requests from writers seeking assistance with digital archiving and Wikipedia updates. Click here to send us a message.

How can I support the BWWP?

We are always looking for volunteers to help with Wikipedia editing as well as with expanding our archival database to include Black writers creating work in languages other than English. Get in touch with us. If you are interested in supporting our work through a financial contribution, you can do so via PayPal. Please note that donations are not tax deductible since BWWP is a pro-bono project of a for-profit independent press.
